Chinese EV Market Intelligence Dashboard

Competitor screening and price–range comparison

The business question

Which selected Chinese EV models can be compared on a consistent Dutch price-and-range basis?

Personal portfolio case · Curated market research

Source & implementation

Why I built it

I wanted to compare selected Chinese EV models for Dutch and European market research. The sources used different range standards, model variants and price definitions, so I first had to establish which comparisons were usable.

The comparison can help a market researcher screen potential competitors and ask better questions about price and range positioning.

My contribution

I assembled a dataset of eight selected models from seven brands, checked the sources and built a dashboard for comparing prices and vehicle specifications. I recorded exclusions and kept international brand presence separate from the model comparison.

Four selected model rows on a shared Dutch list-price / estimated real-range basis. Different segments, years and equipment still matter. Source review: 17 September 2026.

Results

Four comparable model rows.

Four of eight selected models meet the shared Dutch price-and-range criteria.

The four qualifying models provide a starting point for competitor screening and price–range positioning questions. The other models need different or more complete evidence before they can join the same comparison.

What I learned

I learned that competitor research depends on consistent definitions as much as on collecting data. Recording the model variant, source date and range standard makes a comparison easier to explain and update.

Scope and limits

This small selection supports research questions, not a best-buy ranking or a market-entry recommendation.

Data and method

The data

Eight selected models; retained source context reviewed in September 2026; four meet the shared Dutch price-and-range criteria.

Qualifying model rows · Dutch RRP / EV Database Real Range
Model / variantListed priceEst. range
BYD Dolphin 60.4 kWh MY25€37,190350 km
XPeng G6 RWD Long Range MY25€48,990450 km
Zeekr 001 Long Range RWD MY24€55,990505 km
NIO ET5 Touring Long Range€72,900485 km

Excluded from this comparison: BYD Seal (historical Dutch listing), Li Auto L9 (EREV and unresolved trim evidence), Xiaomi SU7 Max (historical CLTC claim; no Dutch price), and Jaecoo J5 EV (Australian WLTP specification; no Dutch price). Exclusion is a comparability decision, not a judgement of vehicle quality.

Method

  1. Define a shared comparison market: Dutch recommended retail prices for currently listed battery-electric models.
  2. Separate range standards and use a consistent EV Database real-range basis; distinguish usable from nominal battery capacity.
  3. Record source dates, model variants and exclusions. Keep brand-level country presence separate from selected-model specifications.
  4. Expose unknown evidence in the dashboard instead of converting it into an absence claim.

The source review was completed on 17 September 2026. Seven of 28 brand–region cells have documented presence; 21 remain unknown. In the selected price–range comparison, the Zeekr 001 pairs 505 km with a €55,990 list price and the XPeng G6 pairs 450 km with €48,990. Body format, equipment and model year still differ.

Project background

This is a curated research project. Retained source context distinguishes vehicle specifications from brand-level country presence; unknown evidence is not treated as absence.

AI helped with source checks, implementation refinement and documentation. I checked the comparisons against the retained sources.

Potential use

A market researcher building an initial EV competitor shortlist.

The decision

Which selected vehicles can be compared on Dutch listed price and a consistent range basis, and which need further evidence?

Original project outputs
A brand-level evidence map. Documented presence is not market share; unknown does not mean absent.
The original dashboard overview places the selected-model scope and comparison controls in context.
Detailed limitations

The selection is small and hand-curated. Brand presence is not model availability, sales or market share. Listing prices are not transaction prices, and specifications can change after the source-review date.

Matched segments, current offers, ownership terms and verified distribution and registration data are still needed for a commercial assessment.

What I would do next

Refresh the sources and expand the matched-model sample, checking local availability, equipment and ownership terms before considering a purchasing or market-entry decision.
